“You’ll never sing that, champions of Europe,” echoed around the ground as Forest supporters celebrated a further result against their Swedish opponents. A great deal has happened since Trevor Francis’s decisive header clinched the continental trophy back in the year 1979, but Forest still hold dear those memories. Equally, significant shifts have taken place in the weeks since Sean Dyche took charge, with the team appearing refreshed and securing a convincing win courtesy of goals from Kalimuendo, Ryan Yates, and Nikola Milenkovic, enhancing their prospects of progressing in the European competition.

Building Steam with Third Consecutive Victory

For Forest, this result – against a Swedish side that had not played for almost three weeks after finishing sixth in their home competition – represented a third consecutive triumph across every tournament and further built on the positive energy gained from the previous week's success at Anfield. While this fixture was a reminder of the club's European Cup triumph in spirit, the game itself was free of any significant jeopardy or jitters.

This was an event filled with sentiment, an eagerly awaited reunion and the third competitive clash between the sides since the European Cup final 46 years ago.

Forest fully embraced the heritage, honoring the legends of that era by providing them, along with their visiting counterparts, the VIP welcome. Control from the Start

So, the hosts had drunk in those wonderful memories, but what about the showing on the evening? It was strong, too. They were in full command from the moment Kalimuendo fired an attempt off target inside two minutes and established a 2-0 lead by the half-time interval. Forest then went for the jugular, with the winger dinking a right-foot shot on to the bar before Sangaré sent an ambitious shot off target from 30 yards. It was that kind of evenings. Dyche, aware of the upcoming league game here against Brighton & Hove Albion, made seven changes from the side that stunned Liverpool at their ground last weekend, when they also netted three times, though he introduced Elliot Anderson, Dan Ndoye and further fresh legs midway through the second half.

Hiccup-Free Night for the Team

It proved a flawless night for Forest. The coach could withdraw Murillo with the match already boxed off and later brought on teenage full-back Sinclair for his first-team debut. He talked about the club legends providing “bits of gold” at weekly get-togethers and, almost five decades on, the present squad showed they are capable of producing of thrills, too.
