Arne Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Support Following PSV Defeat
Arne Slot admitted that it's expected for doubts to be raised about his position following another heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in twelve matches, marking the team's worst streak after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received a lot of support from management,” Slot remarked.
“It would be nice to turn it around and secure a win naturally but if you are in a managerial role and underperforming then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He added, “I accept my role. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Talks with The Board
When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “In the normal conversations we have I sense the belief. But I've not talked to them since this game yet so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Issues and Squad Reaction
Slot expressed regret over known weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their European loss, specifically poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder stated.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry inside. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I support them, and I've watched this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a period like this with outcomes this poor.”
Jones concluded, “However we still have the emblem on our shirts. And as long as that badge is taken away, we’re always going to battle.”
“We’re going to try to get this team return to where it needs to be, prove again what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
