Disaster Occurs as Accidental Explosion at Police Station in Kashmir Region Under Indian Control Takes Nine Lives
A catastrophic blast at a law enforcement facility in the Indian-controlled part of Kashmir has led to the fatalities of nine people and wounding to thirty-two others, according to official statements.
The event happened when a collection of seized explosive materials unintentionally detonated during management operations.
Chronology of Occurrences
The explosion took place on the evening of Friday at the Nowgam law enforcement facility, where explosive materials confiscated in Faridabad region in the northern state of Haryana state were being stored temporarily.
Area law enforcement head declared that the detonation substances were scheduled for forensic examination when a "deeply regrettable" accident during handling resulted in their detonation at approximately 23:20 local time.
Police Statements
Police authorities confirmed that this was an "accidental detonation" and not a terror incident. "Any other speculation regarding the origin of this event is unnecessary," emphasized the security director during a press briefing.
The security post endured significant harm from the detonation, with nearby constructions also being affected by the powerful blast.
Consequences and Fatalities
Multiple vehicles were "consumed by fire and turned into burned shells, with debris scattered across the location," according to police accounts.
"The intensity of the explosion was so powerful that some body parts were found in adjacent homes, approximately 100-200 metres away the security post," reported an authority informant.
Most of the fatalities were police officers, along with scientific examination staff, two investigative imaging experts, and a garment worker who was accompanying the group.
Administration Response
The region's Lieutenant Governor conveyed commiserations and announced that an investigation had been commissioned into the catastrophic occurrence.
"I have directed a investigation to ascertain the cause of the inadvertent detonation. Deeply anguished by the fatalities of important persons due to exceptionally devastating unintentional explosion at Nowgam security post in Srinagar city. My sympathies to the bereaved families. I hope for quick healing of the injured," wrote the authority on digital platforms.
