Egypt Bench Salah as The Palancas Negras on Brink of Elimination from AFCON.

An exciting free-kick moment from the match.

The Angolan winger curled a delightful set-piece onto the post as Angola and Egypt played out a draw.

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah and Etihad striker Omar Marmoush watched from the bench as Group B winners Egypt were held to a stalemate with Angola at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The seven-time champions, having clinched top spot, fielded an entirely changed starting XI and were missing a clinical finish in Agadir.

Angola, who required a victory to stand a chance of progressing, will now endure an anxious period to see if their two points is enough to advance for the last 16 as one of the highest-ranked third-place teams.

Benin, Sudan and Mozambique are assured of at least third place in their pools, all having three points.

Match Key Moments

Winger Fredy struck the outside of a post for Angola shortly after the second half, while Egypt's substitute – one of three players introduced by the Pharaohs – stung goalkeeper Hugo Marques' fingertips with a shot from inside the box.

Salah and Marmoush had scored earlier in the tournament in victories over Zimbabwe and South Africa, respectively.

Egypt will stay in Agadir to face a runner-up from another group next Monday, with their opponents to be determined after the group stage finishes on Wednesday.

In the other Group B closer, South Africa's 3-2 win over Zimbabwe propelled Bafana Bafana through automatically, leaving Angola on the outside looking in.

Pharaohs Feel Star Power Absence

Mohamed Salah observing the match from the sidelines.

The Liverpool star watched Egypt fail to score in an Afcon match for the first time since the 2021 tournament decider.

With top spot secured, Egypt coach Hossam Hassan might have hoped for a more convincing attacking performance from his second string.

The striker, who netted four goals at the 2023 finals, created an first-half chance for Hossam Abdelmaguid, but the defender looped his header wide of the target.

Angola, making multiple rotations themselves, nearly went ahead when Chico Banza linked up with Mabululu before firing a low drive wide.

The first half passed without a shot on target, although Fredy forced goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir into action with a thunderous long-range attempt.

The Angolan captain was the most dangerous threat, watching a set-piece elude the goalkeeper but crash against the woodwork.

At the other end, Salah Mohsen was stunned after almost tapping in a cross, only for the move to be flagged offside.

Late efforts from M'Bala Nzola and Hamdi Fathy could not break the deadlock, ensuring the match ended scoreless.

For Angola, last-eight participants in 2023, their inconsistent performances in Morocco will raise questions about their mid-tournament managerial change.
