Keeper Mary Earps has emphatically said that her freshly launched memoir was not created to “tear anyone down” and expressed concern that audience feedback has been “misrepresented.”

Controversial Comments and Public Criticism

The former England goalkeeper, who had a vital part in the championship win, encountered disapproval from supporters and Blues coach Sonia Bompastor after commenting about ex-colleague Hannah Hampton and head coach Sarina Wiegman.

In her memoir, Earps allegedly stated told Wiegman she was “supporting poor attitude” by recalling Hampton to the national team after omitting her for being “problematic and undependable.”

“The response has been immense to see how certain aspects were twisted,” Earps shared in an interview.

Explaining Her Motives

Earps firmly declared that her memoir was never intended to hurt others.

She stated it was “not a rapid decline” in their dynamic—just a difference of perspectives—and she maintains respect for the manager.

“There were things that occurred during that period that I wish had happened differently,” Earps remarked.

Private Challenges

In her memoir, Earps shared details of the mistreatment she experienced at in her younger years, describing it as a “particularly challenging” section to read again because it brought back previous trauma.

These sentiments led to anxiety episodes, and Earps revealed she had issues with self-perception and used alcohol during the global health crisis to handle emotional difficulties.

Earps openly discussed that she is in a partnership with Kitty and shared her happiness about her relationship.

She also talked about her desire to be a mother and revealed she has preserved her eggs for later fertility treatment.

“I really want to be a mum and have a family,” Earps stated. “I enjoy my football career, but I wish to have a child at a later stage.”

Earps characterized the fertility process as “crazy and invasive” and called for more investigation tailored to sports professionals undergoing equivalent processes.
