New Year's Revelers Told to Bundle Up with Wintry Weather Predicted Across the UK
Weather experts have indicated an icy commencement to the new year, with snow anticipated over large parts of the UK. Celebrants are being urged to bundle up as bitterly cold temperatures are predicted for New Year's Eve.
Celebratory Plans Proceed Amid Forecasts
The Scottish capital's famous Hogmanay festivities are set to take place, following last year's postponement. This comes despite yellow warnings for snow across northern Scotland.
"An icy New Year's Eve night for those who are celebrating, so extra layers will be necessary," noted the Met Office.
Displays Under Clear but Cold Skies
Elsewhere in the UK, the weather is likely to be ideal for fireworks shows, with a lack of precipitation and open skies. Readings are due to be chilly, making warm wraps vital, as per forecasters.
In more northern areas, conditions will be cloudier, but this is unlikely to impact visibility for watching fireworks. "It won't be low cloud, mist or murk, so you ought to be able to see fireworks, just not stars," added one forecaster.
Broad Advisories for New Year's Day
Heading into Friday, advisories have been issued for Northern Ireland and stretching from Wales, over the north-west, the West Midlands and through to London and the majority of the south-east of England.

Temperatures Forecast to Fall Even More
As 2026 begins, it will be "chilly no matter where you are," stated forecaster Simon Partridge. The weather are expected to plummet as wintry showers and strong winds are predicted to hit the north of the country.
About 10cm of snow is expected to have built up in some areas by Friday morning, with up to 30cm on the most elevated routes and peaks.
Medical Warnings Issued
In addition, amber cold health alerts have been activated for the north-east and north-west of England. These are expected to remain in place until noon on 5 January, with the mercury forecast to fall to between 3C and 5C.
Officials stated this meant the weather could to trigger significant impacts across health and social care services. This includes a expected uptick in the number of deaths among those with health conditions or those 65 and older.
