Pat Bamford Joins the Blades After Initiating Derogatory Chants About Coach Chris Wilder

Patrick Bamford has signed with the Championship side just half a year after leading insulting taunts aimed at the team's coach, Wilder.

The 32-year-old striker, a free agent after departing from Leeds United, has put pen to paper on a contract with the Championship club in difficulty until January. His seven-year career with Leeds concluded through agreement this past summer.

One of Bamford’s final notable acts while at Leeds included starting abusive songs regarding Wilder during the club’s promotion party this spring. Currently, the one-cap England international will feature under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss aims to rescue the team he loves away from the drop zone.

Previous History Involving Bamford & the Manager

Both men had history prior to Leeds earned promotion back to the top flight last season and United lost the promotion decider to Sunderland. The manager called Bamford as “a muppet” back when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and the Blades won automatic promotion while Leeds United fell short in the promotion playoffs.

Making Amends and Looking Ahead

All appears to have been resolved with United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, urgently requiring of improvement in attack and Bamford hoping to resurrect his career.

The Wilder chant gained traction in April. An apologetic Bamford and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, called Wilder the next day.

Wilder said at the time: “Had a conversation with Pat yesterday and I have no problem whatsoever with it. I’m not sure regarding the words used from a fellow pro! But I valued and admired him calling me.

“We spent 20 minutes and the same again I talked with Daniel as well and had a half-hour chat together and he's a super guy, a top guy. When I was playing we used to give it and accept it and that is part and parcel of the game at every level, including Sunday league. I have no problem at all. I am cool with the situation and I told him that to Patrick.”

Recent Career Challenges

The forward made 18 games for Leeds in the previous campaign but the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea & Boro striker has struggled with injury in recent years.
