Tottenham Manager Thomas Frank Calls Vicario Booers 'Not Genuine Supporters'

The Cottagers Start Strong to Defeat Spurs and Increase Pressure on the Manager

Tottenham Hotspur supporters who jeered goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario were informed afterwards "they can't be true Spurs fans" by boss Frank.

Tottenham conceded a pair of scores in the opening six minutes to lose 2-1 to Fulham, marking their 10th top-flight at home loss of 2025.

But the primary talking point was the visitors' next score when the keeper lost possession well beyond his box.

He ventured out to handle a long ball and carried the ball near the sideline.

But, rather than kicking it into touch, the Italy international turned and attempted to clear, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Wilson and was controlled by King.

King passed the ball off to Welsh midfield player Harry Wilson, who curled a shot into the goal from the sideline measured at thirty-six point six yards.

Seconds afterwards when the ball went to Vicario again, a number of Tottenham fans booed him.

The team were booed off at the interval, with the club 2-0 behind, and once more at the final whistle.

One of those jeering episodes truly irritated Frank.

"It came to my attention a few of our fans reportedly booed the incident and booed following, which, in my view is totally unjustifiable," the Dane commented about the fans' response to his goalkeeper.

"[They] can't be true Tottenham fans that act that way. Alright booing after the game, no problem, but when we are in play, we are backing one another, we are with each other going forward."

Tete had given Fulham a fourth-minute lead before Wilson's goal – with Kudus netting for Spurs in an better second period performance.

Ex- top-flight keeper Joe Hart remarked that the second score was "completely preventable".

"I do appreciate the supporters' disappointment," the ex-keeper continued. "I know the part the keeper is performing. He is a great squad member, he is a real figure in the locker room but ultimately you are going to be judged by your decisions.

"He was deeply involved in what turned out to be the winning score."

'It is Part of Football, I'm a Big Man'

Thomas Frank Defended His Keeper Vicario Following the Game

Italian national team the keeper is in his 3rd season with Tottenham.

He stated following the game that he had to accept the criticism.

"That score was a mistake of mine, I take accountability for it," he commented.

"My aim was to clear the ball long and I simply hit the ball in a bad manner. It was an even bigger challenge to overcome."

He stated receiving jeers "is part of football".

"I am mature, how can I respond?" he added. "The team cannot be affected by the situation in the stands. The fans have the right to do as they see fit.

"It's on the team to stay more composed, to focus on ourselves. The team is missing in composure and calmness to overturn outcomes. Today is a bad loss and it is hard to accept."

'It Shocked Me Nobody Returned to the Goal Line'

In spite of the keeper's error, it was not an simple goal for Harry Wilson to convert.

Actually it was the next longest-range top division goal of the campaign – after Tyler Adams' forty-three point three metre goal for Bournemouth against Sunderland, which incidentally also occurred on Saturday.

Wilson stated he was "somewhat taken aback" that he still had an empty goal to target.

Ten moments elapsed between Vicario exiting of his area and Wilson shooting – which was 5 moments following the kick.

"I felt like the keeper was away from the box for ages," Wilson remarked.

"It amazed me not one of the defenders went back to the goal line. When none of them covered the goal, my eyes lit up somewhat.

"Udogie fell as well, which allowed me a little extra time. Then it was solely about attempting to achieve the right connection and get it towards goal. I had a positive sense, as soon as it left my boot, that it was on the right line."

'During in a Poor Run, All Seems to Go Against You'

Jeering Whilst We Are Still Playing Is Totally Unacceptable - the Manager

Although Vicario's error led headlines, this was an overall bad performance for Tottenham to extend their home ground woes.

This was their tenth home defeat of 2025 in the Premier League, a shared team record matching 1994 and 2003.

They still have home fixtures against Frank's old side the Bees and title holders Liverpool to come prior to the close of the season.

Just a single of those wins have come after Frank replaced Ange Postecoglou in the off-season.

"When you're down 2-0 following the opening, there is a huge challenge to climb," stated the boss.

"When you're in a bad spell, everything appears to work against you as well – the opening was a redirected attempt, the next is a mistake from the keeper.

"This result puts us in a place where we have suffered an additional game. Every game has a unique narrative, today we were defeated in the early stages.

"We simply need to keep working. The later period was significantly improved and hopefully an aspect we can utilize to learn."

Tottenham have been defeated in four consecutive at home London derbies for the initial time in the Premier League.

And they are averaging 9.5 shots and 3.2 efforts on goal per game in the Premier League – their poorest rates on file in a one campaign (since at least 2003-04).

Former Cottagers midfielder Danny Murphy stated that Frank has to ride the storm.

"He must take the criticism," the pundit said. "He's taken a high profile job at a huge team with enormous expectation. There is scrutiny and responsibility that comes with that.

"Their showings at home have been disappointing and they have to get better {quickly|
