Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years after the original Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a major film company and bringing viewers to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a brand new toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the badge attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
